Requirements
Qualifications:
- Valid BLS/CPR certification
- Certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct Vision, Hearing, Spinal and Acanthosis Nigricans screenings
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Current practical working knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques relevant to children
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize and coordinate District clinics
- Ability to work independently to implement district policies and procedures
- Ability to learn and use computer and willingness to learn and use software applications
- Willingness to attend workshops to acquire new skills
Experience
- School nursing experience preferred
Major Roles and Responsibilities- Health Services
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments on scholars
- Use clinical reasoning based on established evidence-based practice outcomes and research for decision making and comprehensive care
- Develop health plans for scholars with medical conditions
- Provide nursing care to scholars and families through various health care services (For example: Dental Exams and Resources, COVID testing, Lice cleaning resources, etc.,)
- Evaluating scholar outcomes and responses to interventions and identify the need for modification as needed
- Administering medications and treatments according to school district policies
- Delegating tasks to appropriate Team members
- Reporting and concerns related to child abuse to administrators and filing a report to Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
Major Roles and Responsibilities- Screening programs
- Conducts annual Vision, Hearing, Acanthosis Nigricans and Spinal screenings as designated by the Texas Department of State Health services, including sending referrals home as needed
Manages the District Campuses by
- Tracking inventory and ordering supplies in bulk
- Maintains individual Health Files including all forms needed for specific medical conditions
- Utilizes and Documents all clinical evaluations, treatments and outcomes in Magnus Health
Provides Health Counseling by
- Provides resources and referral information to scholars and Staff for community agencies and services
- Conferring with scholars, parents and faculty/staff concerning health needs of individual students
Establishes procedures for Communicable Disease Control by
- Enforcing and monitoring immunization status of students according to TDSHS requirements
- Implementing and enforcing school district communicable disease policies
- Reporting communicable disease cases as required to TDSHS
Provides Emergency First Aid by
- Assessing the severity of injuries and taking appropriate action
- Performing first aid procedures effectively and efficiently
- Anticipating changes in patient conditions and responding accordingly
- Submitting school district incident reports as needed
Promotes Health Education by
- Planning and Implementing health/wellness activities
- Being a member of the School Health and Wellness Committee
- Conducting emergency preparedness training in the event of a medical emergency
- Teaching health-related topics in the classroom as requested
- Conducting health awareness training to educate staff on safe school practices
Other Responsibilities and Duties
- Research district policy, precedent and current practices prior to taking action
- Participates fully in drills and safety exercises to provide for the safety and overall emotional well-being of students
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
- Meet task completion deadlines as set by the Supervisor
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, scholars, teachers, administrators, and co-workers
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned
