The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.


Description

The Lead Catastrophe Analyst will actively lead and manage projects under the guidance of the CAT Manager. Collaborate with the team, providing technical mentorship for efficient task completion. Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and correlations relevant to catastrophe modeling. Contribute to the establishment of reporting standards and best practices. Identify opportunities for process improvements aligned with CAT Management guidelines. Work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to integrate modeling insights into decision-making processes.


Note: This is a Hybrid opportunity with compensation dependent on candidate’s geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.


Responsibilities:

  • Support quarterly portfolio roll-up and reporting operations.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of catastrophe modeling analysts, providing guidance on model development, analysis techniques, and project management.
  • Support the development of reporting standards and best practices for portfolio and account level modeling.
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability of catastrophe models, conducting quality assurance checks and implementing best practices.
  • Engage with internal partners as needed to respond to rating agency surveys, and any other related ad-hoc reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of modeling methodologies, assumptions, and results for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Support business planning, profit studies, portfolio optimization, reinsurance purchase, and other actuarial or data driven exercises where catastrophe risk inputs are required.
  • Assist in the development of catastrophe capacity and appetite metrics.
  • Support Catastrophe event response and loss estimation efforts.
  • Collaborate with R&D team and the different business units on various projects and cross functional initiatives.
Qualifications
  • College degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Finance/General Business or Engineering or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 5-7 years of catastrophic modeling and management reporting experience
  • 2-3 years of experience and demonstrated mastery of CAT management software employed by CAT unit
  • Superb data mining skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert level Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SQL knowledge
  • Insurance and/or reinsurance background preferred
