Job Description:
Madison College is hiring a Lead Business Intelligence / Analytics Data Architect. This role serves the business analytics needs of users across the college, ranging from the executive team, staff, and faculty. This position will be responsible for defining the overall Data Architecture strategy and ensuring that data assets are aligned with the College's data vision and objectives. In collaboration with various teams of stakeholders, this position will design, implement, and maintain data solutions that drive informed decision-making and systemically supports the College's strategic goals at an enterprise scale.
Initially, this position will leverage SSIS and SQL Server tools to maintain and expand on the college's existing data warehouse while concurrently developing a roadmap for our new BI Data Architecture and toolsets, defining, and implementing a solution which will be optimized to handle the increasing prevalence of diverse cloud source systems, data stores, integrations, security, and access challenges.
This position will have the responsibility to coordinate the Data Governance Board meetings involving key stakeholders to enable the College systemically to move towards a Data Governance structure leveraging key datasets at the College.
This position reports to the Director of Institutional Research & Data Management.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, exempt position. Core office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, M-F with some non-traditional hours required. This position has an option for 100% remote work (remote equipment package will be provided). While preference will be given to those candidates residing in the state of Wisconsin, we are open to consideration of other domestic locations.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts a thorough analysis of business processes, documents requirements, and proposes innovative solutions for operational efficiency. Develops and sustains enterprise-level Data Architecture strategy in line with business objectives. Establishes and communicates Data Architecture principles, standards, and best practices. Collaborates with stakeholders, ranging from business units, IT teams, and executive leadership, to understand data needs, including cloud considerations, and translates requirements into aligned data solutions.
  • Leads the creation of comprehensive data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) for seamless integration, reporting, and advanced analytics. Customizes star and snowflake schemas for specific data needs. Oversees data integration design for on-premises and cloud systems. Manages end-to-end ETL processes, efficiently handling data extraction, transformation, and loading into data warehouses.
  • Employ on-premises and/or contemporary cloud-based Data Architectures to develop resilient, scalable, flexible, and cost-efficient solutions for handling and processing data gathered from diverse sources. This process includes a meticulous assessment and choice of cloud platforms and services customized to meet the unique data requirements.
  • Responsible for scheduling the Data Governance Board activities. Key stakeholder to establish and enforce robust data governance policies, standards, and procedures that are instrumental in upholding data quality, security, and regulatory compliance, whether in cloud or on-premises environments. Oversees the implementation of data lineage and data cataloging mechanisms within our cloud infrastructure to enhance data traceability and transparency, ensuring a comprehensive and secure data management framework.
  • Implement optimization techniques that improve data solution performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency within on-premises or cloud environments. In addition, maintain a vigilant approach by continuously assessing and fine-tuning both on-premises and cloud-based data solutions to ensure consistently deliver optimal results.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Expert in End-to-End reporting solution design and development, from the back end of data modeling, integration, ETL processes to the front end of report designing, dashboards and stories creation in BI tools such as IBM Cognos 11.2 or similar product.
  • Strong SQL development experience with the ability to develop, optimize and maintain complex and nested SQL queries using Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019
  • Experience developing and maintaining a mature enterprise BI ETL system with over 1000 processes using SSIS toolset.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance regulations
  • Proficiency in cloud-based Data Architectures, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), and cloud-native data services.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing this position. Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
AND
2. Seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
