The Purpose:
The Coordinator for Law Enforcement Training is responsible for the planning, development, organization, administration, and supervision of continuing education programs designed for Law Enforcement training programs and personnel. Administrative oversight includes evaluating and giving feedback to part-time instructors on instructional performance and developing initiatives to ensure instructors remain current in their respective disciplines, college policies, and procedures.

What You'll be Doing:
  • Assists the BLET School Director in the oversight of the BLET Program as a Qualified Assistant (QA) for the Program.
  • Assists the Detention Officer Certification Course School Director in overseeing the DOCC Program.
  • Assists the General Instructor School Director in the oversight of the General Instructor Training program as Qualified Assistant (QA) for the Program.
  • Assists the Telecommunicator Certification Course School Director in overseeing the TCC program.
  • Assists the Speed Measurement Instruments School Director in the oversight of the SMI Program as a Qualified Assistant (QA) for the Program.
  • Coordinates other continuing education Law Enforcement training courses; maintains relationships with Law Enforcement agencies with regular visits; and maintains college website for Law.
  • Enforcement Training for information regarding contact information, course schedules, events, and marketing.
  • Plan, develop, supervise, and evaluate courses and programs within the Law Enforcement training for continuing education (CE).
  • Develop, approve, schedule, and market courses and activities in the CE program area for Law Enforcement training.
  • Development and oversight of seated and online Law Enforcement training required by the Law Enforcement agencies and their personnel in Henderson and Transylvania Counties.
  • Ensures that marketing, recruiting, and retaining students are expectations for all members of the department and program areas.
  • Employ, supervise, and evaluate instructors and staff for program areas.
  • Implements college policies and procedures.
  • Leads and supervises instructors in assigned departments to ensure that CE programs meet deadlines, assessments, and State requirements.
  • Develops, monitors, and plans effective utilization of budget resources for the department.
  • Teach as needed for the Law Enforcement continuing education programs.
  • Maintains course outlines, materials, and records, including textbook, equipment, and software selection for CE Law Enforcement training programs.
  • Evaluate, manage, and schedule overall facility and program equipment/supply resources for the program area.
  • Develop and coordinate instructor development and training activities.
  • Represent the College at appropriate meetings, activities, and conferences.
  • Ensures compliance with policies of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
  • During periods of high registration activity, may be asked to assist in the advising and registering curriculum criminal justice students in assistance to the Director of Law Enforcement Training and Criminal Justice.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Training:
  • Certified General Instructor Required. Must have or be qualified to obtain certification as a Qualified Assistant under NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards.
Experience:
  • 5 years of Law Enforcement experience is required, and 2 or more years as an Instructor Preferred.
Preferred Training Specializations:
  • In addition, one or more of the following training specializations is preferred.
  • Detention Instructor.
  • Telecommunicator Instructor.
  • General Instructor Training Orientation (Qualified to teach General Instructor Course).
  • Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor.
  • Speed Measuring Instrument (SMI) Instructor.
  • Field Training Officer Instructor (Qualified to teach the FTO course).
  • Rapid Deployment Instructor.
  • Specialized Driving Instructor.
  • Specialized Firearms Instructor.
  • Specialized Subject Control Arrest Techniques Instructor.
  • Specialized Physical Fitness Instructor.
  • Specialized First Responder Instructor.
  • Specialized Explosive and Hazardous Materials Emergencies Instructor.

Skills and the Know-How:
  • Must maintain credentials necessary for the assigned program area.
  • Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. Must be physically able to perform task levels commensurate with a Law Enforcement officer.
