7000 Languages is a non-profit organization with the mission to empower communities around the world to teach, learn, and sustain their endangered languages. We are seeking applicants for our 2024 Language Revitalization Cohort.
As a part of the Language Revitalization Fellowship Program, you will work within your own community to design lessons, create project plans, and deliver free language learning technology tools.

This fellowship is ideal for an independent, driven person who wants to use their passion for language and culture and their organizational skills to make a difference in people’s lives, while learning about the fundamentals of project management, Language Revitalization, and language learning technology.

We strongly encourage applications from individuals seeking to reclaim, revitalize or maintain their ancestral language. Applicants do not need to be currently enrolled in college/university to apply. We welcome candidates from anywhere in the world.
Duties:
- Create online language learning materials
- Test and review new language learning technology tools, including the new 7000 Languages mobile application
- Work with communities and the Program Coordinator or Executive Director to determine the goals, scope & deliverables for language courses
- Manage projects and help keep them on schedule
- Assist communities and engage with your language and/or community through content creation, installing software, designing the courses, writing lessons, and recording audio
- Share best practices for course creation with Community Partners (e.g. ideal recording conditions, file naming conventions, file storing, etc.)
- Maintain course files and keep track of multiple drafts
- Use proprietary software and other technology tools to process files for publication
- Share success stories with the 7000 Languages team
- Work on streamlining and developing technology tools and resources for community use
- Work with the 7000 team to build creative marketing content for your assigned language, community and course rollout
Ideal Qualifications:
- Self-identifies as Indigenous (preferred)
- Working toward a degree in Linguistics, Native American Studies, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred)
- Member of a community with an endangered ancestral language (preferred)
- Ability to plan and implement several projects at once while remaining focused and on schedule
- Attention to detail
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills
- Familiarity with Indigenous, endangered language, and Language Revitalization issues
- Experience learning or studying a second language
- Comfortability using technology tools, coding, app development, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Fellowship, part-time, 10 hrs. per week, 10-12 weeks in duration with the possibility of an extension
Pay Range: $18-$20 USD per hour. In addition to this pay range, we are committed to helping fellows attain college credit when/if applicable.
Location: Remote, working in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone schedule
