Job description

Utah Community Action is seeking to hire a Landlord/Tenant Mediator. Our Landlord/Tenant Mediator earns a competitive yearly salary of $48,760. We also offer generous year-round benefits that include health, dental, vision, 11 paid holidays in addition to paid time off between Christmas and New Year's, PTO (up to 192 hours per year), an hour of paid time on Fridays for self-care, a flexible spending account (FSA), a healthcare spending account (HSA) with up to a $2,500 match, a 401k plan with a 5% match, short and long-term disability, tuition reimbursement (some conditions apply), accident insurance, and life insurance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LANDLORD/TENANT MEDIATOR
You are responsible for assisting clients regarding housing services like tenant education, mediation, referrals, and community partner collaborations (specifically with Utah Dispute Resolution, The Administrative Office of the Court: Utah Legal Services aid). You help coordinate mediation services and timely legal referrals.
COMPETENCIES FOR A LANDLORD/TENANT MEDIATOR

  • Identify client motivation and use it as a tool for empowerment.
  • Assist clients in the development of mediation agreements/repayment plans.
  • Empower clients to become aware of the cause-and-effect relationship between their circumstances (social and financial) and their choices (behavior).
  • Provide opportunities for clients to identify their strengths as leaders/advocates and to use them in the program and community.
  • Encourage clients' involvement in applicable community activities and opportunities that will result in greater community participation and quality of life.
  • Provide mediation services, legal referrals, and tenant education.
  • Assess social and financial barriers to determine appropriate interventions.
  • Work toward developing an extensive knowledge of social services and community resources for clients (e.g. health, mental health, nutrition, financial literacy, adult education, family relationships, job training, ESL, child care, transportation, safety, etc.).
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure that all service areas are integrated into a comprehensive program.
  • Continue ongoing professional development through training, meetings, and education courses.
  • Professionally represent UCA while collaborating with community agencies.
  • Provide and follow up on the effectiveness of referrals to community resources to ensure that the kind, quality, and timeliness were appropriate, and give additional or different resources if needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Case Management notes.
  • Ensure clients have access to all available direct-client services and that housing grant timelines are met
  • Must live in Utah, this position is on-site

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least two years of experience
  • Experience in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with low-income populations (preferred)
  • Experience in conflict resolution, trauma-informed care (preferred)

WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time social services position with our nonprofit typically work 8 am - 4:30 pm or 8:30 am - 5 pm. The work location is in West Jordan, UT 84088, Utah.
