Sigma Consulting Group, Inc., one of Baton Rouge’s “Best Places To Work”, is looking for a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) for our Baton Rouge office.
As a Land Surveyor in Training in Louisiana, your role will be to assist in the collection and analysis of field data, preparation of survey documents, and support the overall surveying process. Under the guidance of a licensed Land Surveyor, you will work to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become a licensed professional in the field.

Key Responsibilities
- Field Surveying:
- Assist in conducting field surveys to gather accurate and precise measurements of land features using surveying instruments and equipment.
- Set up and operate surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect, compile, and process survey data, ensuring accuracy and adherence to survey standards.
- Assist in the analysis of survey data to create detailed maps, plats, and other survey documents.
- Boundary Surveys:
- Participate in boundary surveys to determine and document property lines, easements, and right-of-ways.
- Research property deeds, maps, and other records to gather information relevant to survey projects.
- Drafting and Mapping:
- Assist in the preparation of survey drawings, maps, and plats using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Ensure that survey documents meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Quality Control:
- Participate in quality control checks to verify the accuracy of survey data and reports.
- Collaborate with senior surveyors to address any discrepancies or issues that may arise during the surveying process.
- Client Communication:
- Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and other team members to understand project requirements and expectations.
- Provide updates on project progress and address client inquiries.
- Professional Development:
- Pursue ongoing education and training to meet the requirements for obtaining a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
- Stay informed about advancements in surveying technology and industry best practices.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
- Enrolled in or completed a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) program.
- Knowledge of surveying techniques, equipment, and software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
