Survey Assistant
Job Summary
- Great entry level position to get into the field of land surveying. Evolve from a job to a career with us. The survey assistant (instrument person) works as part of a field survey crew performing land survey work taking direction from the survey crew chief. The instrument person works in the field on job sites that have existing structures and features and on new construction sites where roads and houses/buildings are being constructed. Field conditions vary and instrument persons must be capable of walking and carrying equipment on uneven surfaces on heavy construction sites or in the woods and be capable of meeting changing field conditions and weather conditions.
General Accountabilities
- Perform land surveying including boundary line, topographic survey, construction stake out
- Take direction from the survey chief, maintain proper care of survey equipment
- Document all phases of survey work
Job Qualifications
- High School graduate
- 1-3 years of preferred experience conducting land survey work. Will train the right candidate
- Must maintain a valid driver license and have a good driving record
- Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Dependable and reliable, willing to learn
Skills: Other
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Be able to work cohesively in a team environment
- Capable of thinking analytically and critically
- Capable of representing the company in a professional manner
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
- Must be willing to learn & retain information
Physical Demands
- Must be able to walk around a construction site on even and uneven surfaces
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally, carry equipment and use hand tools
Work Environment
- Work outside in adverse weather conditions, with exposure to outdoor elements and willingness to travel to and from the job site as well as between offices.
- Working hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday thru Friday.
