Your OpportunityWe are seeking a Land Surveyor to join our Community Development Team. Our projects are typically located in Western NY however you will have the opportunity to collaborate with staff throughout the company. We are looking for a candidate that will grow with the position and expand the long term survey services offered in Rochester NY. You will work under the direction of an Associate/Senior Surveyor. You will perform public record research and calculations to resolve property boundaries and rights of way; will review Survey Technician's work and serve as a technical task manager on various sized projects. You may assist in scheduling for field crews and help prepare crews for their field work. You may also assist and/or prepare construction staking calculations and reports as needed. You may be required to make sure equipment is maintained, repaired, and calibrated as needed.
Your Key Responsibilities- Responsible for performing survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, abstracting title data, record drawings research, and client relations.
- Sign and seal survey documents when requested.
- Monitor projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients on technical matters.
- Work directly with project team members, to include licensed professionals and other technical staff.
- Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level when assigned.
- Requires advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of ALTA/NSPS surveys is required and NYSDOT procedures is preferred.
- Demonstrates intermediate to advanced skills in survey processing software.
- Well-developed understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of survey work.
- Proficient in relevant technical software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and/or equivalent. MicroStation experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations.
- Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Demonstrates strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry.
- Accuracy, precision, and documentation are required for all work performed.
- The ability to adapt to established in-house methods and procedures for data collection, management, processing, and delivery is required.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geomatics, Land Surveying, or related field preferred. Licensed by the State of New York in Land Surveying. Minimum of 5-6 years of experience preferred.
