We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Land Negotiator Sr. or Land Negotiator Advisor within our Permian Land Surface group based in Houston or Midland, TX.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Frequent interaction with the private landowners, developers, and tenant farmers; acquiring oil and gas surface agreements as needed; drafting, reviewing, analyzing, negotiation and preparation of various agreements, including surface use agreements, electrical and water on demand easements, site easements, etc.; planning new wells-including reviewing/analyzing surface title and securing needed curative; active input and participation in the decision making process of various projects; and coordinating with activity of field operations for routine well and facility maintenance, plug and abandonment and associated activities.
  • Frequent interaction with the Bureau of Land Management and the New Mexico State Land Office in support of oil & gas operations on their lands.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and application of all petroleum land and negotiating principles, theories and concepts within the discipline
  • Has working knowledge of how land interacts with Exploration, Engineering, Geoscience, Accounting, Legal and Marketing; and will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of industry financial drivers. 
  • Responsible for conducting all land work to include obtaining and evaluating land data (i.e., records, titles, abstracts, etc.) on availability of land and/or leases for acquisition, development, and/or divestiture.
  • Secures the examinations of titles, resolves defects, and settles damage claims. 

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and reach closure within established timeframes
  • Good verbal/written communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Excellent business skills and strong ethics
  • Strong negotiation skills as well as experience recognizing, analyzing, and resolving difficult negotiating situations
  • Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary group to achieve project related goals
  • Knowledge of applicable county, state and federal regulatory rules and procedures
  • Strong ability to work effectively and coordinate activities with other groups in field operations offices, and with other Land Negotiators
  • Strong PC skills, including MS Office Suite
  • Good problem solving skills and established drive for results

 Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Commerce or Management, Business or J.D.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of working experience in traditional operations landman/Land Negotiator roles, or other relevant oil and gas experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and/or local Landman Association memberships
