Job Summary:

As an LAN Network Engineer - Information Technology (IT) Analyst supporting Caterpillar’s America’s region LAN, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and with a cooperative team on complex projects that may span multiple infrastructure components or applications. You will develop your professional network and leadership skills, assisting in the creation and support of IT Solutions that enable Caterpillar success. Further, you will contribute real value by developing, integrating, and/or supporting in-house and purchased applications or infrastructure solutions to solve business problems.

What You Will Do:

  • Working directly on Local Area Network (LAN) technical problem identification and resolution, including off-shift and weekend support functions.
  • Participating in integrated testing and user acceptance of application or infrastructure components using Cat’s LAN.
  • Working with business partners and vendors with integration of infrastructure.
  • Designing and implementing processes, or process improvements, to aid in development and support.
  • Maintain and administer Cat LAN and related environments including hardware, software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve LAN hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary on/off-shift and during weekends.

What You Have:

  • Computer-related or engineering-related four-year college or university degree
  • Strong progressively responsible IT job-related experiences
  • LAN and WLAN implementation and support, knowledge of risk domains, tiered domains, TCP/IP fundamentals, ethernet, QoS, IP subnetting, cabling (copper & fiber), OSPF, VLAN Trunking, VLANs, and switching configuration.
  • Functional experience with LAN operations and implementation utilizing Cisco switches.
  • Desired but not required Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Experience with automation technologies and scripting
  • Relevant work experience with medium to large companies
