This position primarily involves the upkeep of city parks, facilities, and other outdoor spaces to ensure they remain safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing for residents and visitors.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cutting grass, trimming hedges, and edging sidewalks using manual and powered equipment.
- Assist with the planting, watering, and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, and trees in designated areas.
- Remove litter, debris, and other hazards from parks, playgrounds, and public areas.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
- Inspect and report any damages, safety concerns, or maintenance needs observed during routine tasks.
- Support special events and activities held in city parks or outdoor facilities by setting up and taking down equipment, signage, and seating as needed.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure personal safety and the safety of others while performing duties.
- Collaborate with other city departments and staff members as required to accomplish shared goals and projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including storage areas, equipment sheds, and maintenance facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or departmental leadership.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related field is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in workmanship.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required for certain tasks or assignments.
