CODE:  8002     PAY GRADE: 6 - $15.00 – $15.91/Hour

(New hires start at step 6 - $15.00 an hour)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This work involves the maintenance of the grounds, landscaping, and paved areas within the two Augusta area State Complexes.  Other duties include the moving of heavy office furnishings and equipment and assisting building maintenance trades in the upkeep of State Buildings.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Sweeps walks and parking lots, mows lawns, rakes leaves, and generally assists in keeping the outside premises in an orderly fashion.
  • Provides routine maintenance of plants and flowers.
  • Shovels snow, plows, sands, and salts walks, parking lots and driveways within the complex.
  • Moves office furnishings, heavy equipment, materials.
  • Works as a helper of skilled tradesmen and assists them in the performance of their duties, i.e., carpenters, plumbers, masons, electricians, and painters.
  • Sharpens, maintains, and cleans all shop equipment.
  • Operates State vehicles assigned to the Grounds Crew.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the tools/equipment used by Grounds Crew.
  • Knowledge of the procedures used in moving office furnishings.
  • Knowledge of the care of plants/flowers used in landscaping.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 100 pounds safely.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with power/hand tools.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, e.g., shovel snow, mow lawns, and dig ditches.
  • Ability to work independently.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Experience in the use of basic tools. and equipment associated with the duties of the specific position for which applying is required.
