- Perform all manual duties of loading and unloading the barges.
- Lash and unlash containers and various types of cargo such as RORO equipment, trailers, construction equipment, etc. on barge using securing gear.
- Cone and de-cone containers, platforms, and flatracks at designated coning stations.
- Operate, load and drive autos and various types of equipment and vehicles on and off barge according to barge plan or as directed by the lead person.
- Wedge block all autos and RORO.
- Ballast Barge: NI only.
- Plug /Unplug all reefers: NI only.
- General Housekeeping within assigned work area.
- It is understood that signaling functions are primarily the duty of the Leadman. However, Laborers may also use hand signals to assist other workers to maneuver cargo.
- Operates vehicles on highway and company property.
- A Laborer who is temporarily transferred to MO shall provide relief based upon their qualifications up to and including Hustler. The Company shall continue its current practice of labor loaning MOs to the port of Lanai; however, it is understood that in the port of Lanai, a Laborer can operate equipment up to the 20 ton machine. In the port of Molokai, they can operate up to the 20 ton machine shoreside only.
- When there is work opportunity in the driving positions, Laborers shall be rotated via temporary transfer to fill those open positions.
- Honolulu, Kauai, Maui, Kawaihae and Hilo: A minimum of 2 Laborers shall be assigned to each coning station when coning is being performed.
- It is understood that during barge operations, Laborers may be needed to perform work away from the barge ramp to include but not limited to driving, lashing and unlashing cargo, and MO assist on the pier. The Company reserves the right to shut down a ramp or to pull sufficient Laborers away from the ramp as necessary to accomplish tasks related to the Laborer classification. The direction of such duties will be made by Management to the employee. It is understood that at no time will coning and de-coning on a ramp occur without the compliment of Laborers as agreed to in the CBA.
- [Lanai and Molokai]: It is understood that safety shall continue to be a priority. Supervisors shall be responsible for protecting the safety of employees when making job assignments and carrying out operations.
- Performs other duties within the classification.
- Sitting: Drives equipment and automobiles.
- Climbing/balancing/jumping: Ensures lashing equipment is secure and assists w/reefer plugs.
- Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling/squatting/twisting: Lashes and unlashes cargo and equipment, places dunnage and wedge blocks for automobiles.
- Standing: Signals other workers to ensure safe maneuvers.
- Walking: As needed to perform the essential job functions in traveling between work areas.
- Running: Lashes and unlashes cargo, assist with reefer lines.
- Handling: Picks up lashing equipment.
- Fingering: Signals other workers to ensure safe maneuvers, picks up lashing equipment.
- Eye-hand-foot coordination: Required to perform the various tasks above.
- Vision (corrected, depth, wide field, color): Continuously in all tasks -- Must have corrected vision, depth perception, and wide field of vision as required to obtain a driver's license to operate automobiles and to operate power-operated vehicles under OSHA Standard 1917.27(a)(2). Duties require good eyesight and alertness due to the constant movement and heavy traffic flow of autos, trucks, heavy equipment, and forklifts/hi-lifts at the facilities.
- Pushing/Pulling: 50 pounds, loads automobiles, lashes and unlashes cargo, etc.
- Lifting/Carrying: 50 pounds, picks up lashing equipment
