Job Description
We are looking for experienced Water Construction Laborers/Pipe Installers to join our construction team. We specialize in highway, roadway, and underground utility construction. As a Water Construction Laborer/Pipe Installer, you will be responsible for working on local distribution systems, assessing ground conditions, digging trenches, assembling pipes, and laying pipes in accordance with City ordinates.
To ensure success as a Water Construction Laborer/Piper Installer, you should have good working knowledge in pipe installation, fitting techniques, customer service laterals, meter installations; all within the Public right-of-way. A skilled Pipe Installer should be able to select, place, and install pipes quickly and efficiently without impeding the progress of construction.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for digging trenches, installing sewer, water pipelines; and backfilling excavations with sand, base and asphalt.
- Responsible for entering and exiting excavations varying in depth from 2’ to 5’
- Shovel dirt, rake dirt or hot asphalt, jackhammer roadways or sidewalks, jackhammer concrete.
- Carry materials or equipment to and from the truck to a jobsite.
- Use of a chop saw to cut pipe, concrete and asphalt.
- Perform basic pipe installation with varying pipe sizes from 6” to 24”; including ½” to 2” copper laterals.
- Tapping and stopping off water service tees from the main line.
- Gathering material and installation tools.
- Removing old or broken piping systems.
- Checking pipe alignment.
- Installing service laterals and customer meters.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven work experience in water, sewer and storm drain.
- Detailed knowledge of construction and pipe installation techniques.
- Knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains.
- Experience with machine-operated trenching tools.
- Ability to read and interpret plans/specs and city maps.
- Excellent physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy objects.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions.
