Under close supervision of the Lead Maintenance Worker, this position will perform routine grounds maintenance duties; and perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Laborers assist skilled maintenance staff in maintenance projects. Under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in the area of parks maintenance and related tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform routine grounds maintenance duties.
- Clean and service park areas and restrooms.
- Prepare athletic fields for recreation programs.
- Operate small power tools and equipment.
- Pick up litter; empty trash receptacles and BBQ's.
- Close and lock restrooms and parking lot gates.
- Maintain records.
- Perform facility set-up for various recreation activities.
- Cleans up work sites upon completion of job.
- Provide quality customer service.
- Performs special assignments as assigned.
- May perform duties normally performed by a Parks Maintenance Worker in a training capacity.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of maintenance and repair of park grounds.
- Chemicals for cleaning restrooms.
- Vehicle operations and state and local traffic laws.
- Work weekends and holidays.
- Operate landscape maintenance equipment.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a courteous attitude when dealing with the public.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Bend, stoop, climb, and lift 50 pounds.
- Provide quality customer service.
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent; prior experience in street repair and/or public works maintenance work is preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy. A commercial driver's license is preferred.
