Job Summary:
This position is responsible for training Scientists in all phases of sample processing. The Trainer is responsible for providing input to Supervisors regarding the trainee’s progress and performance and may also conduct process and compliance audits as needed. The Trainer is responsible for training of new hires and existing employees on an on-going basis ensuring they can learn critical skills needed for career progression. The Trainer is responsible for maintaining training checklists, conducting competency assessments, training existing staff on new workflows (as applicable, and participating in regulatory audits if requested. This position requires strong training, presentation, facilitation, and communications skills. The ability to draw from both internal and external resources and knowledge to develop training materials and maximize effectiveness is required.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
· Competency assessments on the duties of Lab Scientist.
· Training of new employees in role in conjunction with Supervisor(s).
· Ensuring new employees have all the tools required during training.
- Develop programs and curriculum for the employees of the organization for in-job training.
· Updating training program with accordance to current processes and following proper approval chain.
· Developing and updating job aides as needed for employees, in collaboration with Quality Department.
- Collaborate with management to identify training needs and schedule appropriate training sessions for employees.
· Communicate with management to determine training needs and training schedules of employees.
· Communicate to management the status of personnel, procedures, workloads, etc. in a timely manner, notify management of any present or potential issues related to quality of service, processes, or compliance. Identify problem areas and develop recommendations and plans for solutions.
- Analyze the effectiveness of training and develop appropriate modification if needed.
- Develop systems to monitor and ensure employees are performing their responsibilities according to the training.
- Provide support and mentoring for new employees while conducting an evaluation and identifying sections where improvements are needed.
· Works with the QA and Safety Supervisor; attends Committee meetings to implement changes as needed.
· Leads and/or assists in the development/ongoing continuous quality management for the laboratory.
Evaluates and assists with lean projects in the laboratory that works to improve overall processes to help the company provide quality care in a cost effective and timely manner to its patients.
· Travel required.
Qualifications:
Education –
- Bachelor of Science or similar with necessary coursework for scientist duties
- 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND
- Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

Experience –
- 2-4 years high complexity PCR laboratory experience required.
- Broad understanding of sterile technique and cleaning for a PCR lab.
- Basic understanding of the data and internal controls.
- 2 years of testing using OpenArray workflow and QuantStudio instruments.
