Summary/Objective
Under general supervision of the Cytology Manager, the Cytology ProcessingLaboratory Technician is responsible for preparing cytology slides from Gynecologic Specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Cytologists and Pathologists.
Shift: Monday - Friday 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Essential Functions
- Processes Gynecologic specimens for microscopic evaluation by opening, verifying patient identity and sample integrity and labeling and case assignment
- Prepares and processes send outs for Gynecologic specimens
- Provides routine checks and quality control measures for Gynecologic specimens
- Completes verifications and returns for Gynecologic specimens
- Prepares Gynecologic slides for distribution
- Prepares Non Gynecologic specimen requisitions for distribution
- Maintains requisitions, slides, and blocks in designated areas
- Maintains specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes of the department and high quality production goals (0% discrepancy Threshold)
- Ensures that the work area, including work bench, is decontaminated, and has adequate working supplies
- Disposes and labels biohazard waste and reagents appropriately
- Maintains and records laboratory equipment preventative maintenance and ensures equipment is ready for daily use
- Performs troubleshooting specimen/test order problems
- Communicates and documents shift change duties with team members
- Collaborates with other departments, colleagues, and clients in problem solving
- Performs assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Maintains strictest confidentiality
- Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals
- Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations
Job Requirements and Skills
- HS Diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree in Science preferred
- Minimum one year laboratory experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology desired
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner with internal and external staff, clients, physicians, and vendors.
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
Compensation and Benefits
- The compensation is $41,600 - $ 45,760 annually (non-exempt) paid semi-monthly on an eight (8) hour per day, forty (40) hour per week. Final salary offer subject to multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, geographic location of the role, and current market data.
