Laboratory Technician - Americas
Job Context:
The production laboratory is headed by the Laboratory Manager, supported by the Management team. The main activity of the laboratory is to analyse fuel oils and distillates as per ISO 8217 and monitor the quality of lube used oils (OCM). The work is distributed amongst the lab team. The work is further distributed within lab teams, through workstations. The operational laboratory work is under the control of a Laboratory Manager. The Laboratory Technician is internally trained and certified to be able to operate all workstations.
Position Reports To: Assistant Laboratory Manager
Job Objectives/Responsibilities:
▪ Conduct diverse types of preparatory laboratory work according to the instruction or under the guidance of a Laboratory Manager or Assistant Manager.
▪ Receiving, unpacking, and identifying (diesels, fuels, lube) samples, checking, and stapling together related papers, and clearing up empty boxes and plastic.
▪ Pouring out, shaking, and possible heating of the samples.
▪ Making the glassware ready, inclusive of numbering.
▪ Replenishing reagents wherever necessary.
▪ Making the workstation ready for operation once again for full use.
▪ Analysing samples with the related equipment, setting/operating the designated workstation according to the rules.
▪ Conduct quality checks on the equipment, recording the values found on the QC chart, acting as per procedure wherever abnormal values are found.
▪ Monitoring the progress of the procedure, if necessary, re-starting the equipment.
▪ Assessment of the test results, checking whether all the samples have been properly run, wherever necessary, conducting retests.
▪ Measuring reproducibility to check for retests.
▪ Recording the test results, communicating abnormal results and/or other significant aspects relating to the sample, and notifying the manager.
▪ Keeping laboratory and own workplace clean.
▪ Use proper disposal procedure per VPS environmental requirements.
▪ Checking work for other workstations, providing support to other Laboratory Technicians and Chemists.
▪ Periodic maintenance and calibration of test equipment.
▪ Maintain the supply/consumables inventory of the station assigned to.
▪ Complying with company rules and regulations relating to occupational health, safety, and quality.
▪ Any other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Qualification Requirements:
▪ High School Diploma or GED.
▪ Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or related field is preferred.
▪ No previous work experience is necessary as we train specifically to ISO 17025 guidelines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
