Job Description
Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking applicants for a Laboratory Technician 2 in the Biology department.
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician 2 will perform the full range of duties described in the series concept in a designated field of specialization, and in addition, perform complex technical duties that require specialized knowledge in a specific scientific discipline such as biology, chemistry, zoology, botany or other field. Duties frequently require the application of judgment in identifying and selecting the most appropriate laboratory techniques which may vary with laboratory circumstances and the analytical testing required. Major responsibilities include: preparation of Biology courses laboratories, maintenance of science preparatory laboratory, faculty support, adhere to laboratory safety, and maintain open communication with all departments. The position may be assigned to supervise lower level technicians, volunteers and/or students.
Required Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of experience in a laboratory setting that involved performing various laboratory tests and experiments, and maintaining and repairing basic laboratory equipment; OR
• One (1) year as a Laboratory Technician I in Nevada State service; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

This position requires working knowledge of specialized laboratory techniques used in a specific scientific field; materials, supplies and equipment used in a laboratory; and scientific literature and references needed to research information in the designated scientific discipline.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Preferred Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in the sciences from an accredited institution.
• Two years managerial experience in a science laboratory.
• Completed formal laboratory safety training.
• Ability to coordinate operations and supervise others as assigned; and order, distribute, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.

Schedule
The typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with some evenings required; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Compensation Grade
Grade 27 (Step 01 $19.94/hr. - Step 03 $21.64)

The Grade is determined when the position was created. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets.
