Job Description:
Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, and clinical lab supervisor or phlebotomy supervisor, the lab technician is responsible for verifying receipt of orders and processing laboratory specimens. Prioritizes workflow and enters data accurately in hospital and laboratory computer systems. Assesses specimen integrity and routes samples for testing. Prepares aliquots for referral testing. Guides, trains and may provide mentoring to students and/or trainees. Functions as CPT I or CPT II as required. Maintains the highest standards of conduct in customer service, appearance and attitude. Recognizes the importance of meeting customer expectations and demonstrates a positive attitude and efficient use of resources. Performs related duties as necessary to fulfill the customer's needs. Uses best judgment in all interactions with patients, medical staff, and team members. Maintains patient confidentiality according to applicable laws and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to Clinical Supervisor or Phlebotomy Supervisor.
Individuals working in this job classification are NOT authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director to perform moderate or high complexity testing. Authorization to perform waived testing is limited to procedures with documentation of training. Supervisory review is not required to report patient results. Individuals working in this job classification are authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director to process specimens with documentation of training. Supervisory review is not required to process specimens.
Experience:
Basic computer data entry and edit skills are required. English language proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication is required. Well developed customer service, teamwork, and critical thinking skills are required. One year previous phlebotomy experience within the last 3 years is preferred.
Additional computer skills in Word and Excel preferred.
Education:
High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
Must have a valid California certificate as CPT I or CPT II. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required

Per diem, varied days and shifts as needed. No set guaranteed hours in a two week pay period. This is not a full or part time position.
