The Senior (SR) Manager of Laboratory ensures compliance with CAP, CLIA 88, HIPAA, and Washington Medical Test Site licensure requirements. As a key member of the hospital Leadership Team, responsibilities include supervising, planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating laboratory services. The SR Manager is responsible for efficient day-to-day operations of the department and optimum use of resources to maximize productivity and minimize costs while maintaining high quality and safe patient care.
Wage Range $90,000 to $120,000 annually

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance & Quality
- Assumes responsibility for all compliance-related activities, including policies, procedures, and audits.
- Ensures readiness of the lab for regulatory inspections by DOH, CAP, and donor center.
- Maintains records for quality control, quality assurance, and quality management.
- Reviews all laboratory quality control on a weekly basis.
- Oversees CAP proficiency testing to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
- Reviews and responds to Safety Portal events affecting the laboratory in a timely manner.
Data & Reporting
- Analyzes data and generates reports for performance improvement monitors which affect the laboratory
- Oversees the LIS system for the laboratory to ensure compliance with CAP, patient reference ranges, resulting, and validation (this includes supervising the Lab LIS coordinator, Engage, and Meditech).
Collaboration
- Interacts with Laboratory Medical Director during weekly visits to ensure good communication and oversight
- Interacts with other Medical Center Directors, departments, and service lines to assure that the laboratory meets the needs of patients, programs, and services.
- Acts as a liaison between our reference laboratory to ensure timely and quality results for patients.
- Works with outside vendors to negotiate contracts in order to prepare business case proposals for maintenance and replacement of instruments and equipment.
Finance
- Develops and manages departmental operating budget.
- Checks to ensure bills from reference labs are accurate.
- Works together with revenue cycle department on proper CPT codes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in health sciences
- Minimum of five years OF LABORATORY experience in a high-complexity laboratory (hospital-based preferred).
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, ASCP or equivalent.
- At least five years of demonstrated management/supervisory experience.
- Has current or is able to obtain and maintain AHA BLS certification and Washington department of health Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is primarily worked in a clinical and office environment. This may include irregular working hours including weekends and on-call responsibilities. Travel to off-site locations for meetings, education and training may be required. The position will frequently require walking, lifting, reaching carrying, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 20lbs. The position will occasionally require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds, as well as require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.
