Laboratory Safety Coordinator

Posting Summary:

Support and implement the University’s safety and regulatory compliance programs in laboratories and other workplace settings, with a focus on OSHA and EPA regulations, as well as UVM’s Environmental Management Plan and UVM’s Laboratory Safety Policy. Provide safety outreach to over 700 campus laboratories, their PIs, faculty, and lab technicians, as well as to other job sites with chemical hazards, such as in the Art and Theatre Departments. Coordinate with other safety professionals in the department to maintain a consistent safety program campus wide. Support the University’s Indoor Air Quality response program by investigating concerns, providing or obtaining needed technical support, working with occupants and Physical Plant staff to resolve issues when they arise. Provide training in chemical and blood borne pathogens safety to laboratory and non-laboratory UVM workers and students. Position is in the Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and autonomously works within a broader division that has a universal commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great experiences to customers.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):

Bachelor’s degree in related science and four years of experience in health and safety profession or in a laboratory setting. Effective communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities required. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace diversity, sustainability and delivering exceptional value and great customer service. Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain.

Desirable Qualifications:

- Experience in field of Environmental Health & Safety,- Experience in research or academic laboratory operations.- Knowledge of NIH and CDC guidelines concerning biosafety- Website design experience- Experience with OSHA and EPA regulations and their application in laboratory settings,- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO), or similar designation, or ability to obtain, is desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range:

$58,000 to $64,000/year
