Position Summary:

Our busy medical testing laboratory is currently seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician for the role of Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator. In this role, you will perform various tasks including coordination of all technology and information management processes specific to the laboratory. The duties of this position include broad aspects of implementation and support for the Laboratory Information system modules, electronic medical record, interface facilitation, and electrocardiograph records. Additional responsibilities include corporate compliance and quality assurance performance improvement activities, education proctoring, leadership team functions, and may include specialty/subspecialty oversight.

You will also work as a generalist on the bench, which includes filling open shifts, specimen collection, patient testing, contribution to equipment selection, validation implementation and maintenance, training and education, as well as quality assurance and maintaining appropriate documentation. On a daily basis you will also have the opportunity to deliver excellent patient service, answer patient questions, act as a resource for patient information and strengthen the relationship between the patient and our entire medical facility.

As of 6/21/23 there is no longer a need for either vaccination confirmation or medical/religious exemption.

Do you have an associated or baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a science field with subject content specific to CLIA requirements?

Have you taken and passed a registry exam, either through ASCP or AMT?

DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Practice/Position Duties

1. Upholds NMC Health’s vision, mission, and core values.

2. Follows hospital-wide and departmental policies, including but not limited to general procedures, assigned duties, confidentiality, and observing the Patient’s Bill of Rights.

3. Facilitates implementation and maintenance of systems, changes/upgrades, instrument interfaces, and set up of new features.

4. Represents laboratory in information services related functions, meetings, training sessions, and discussions.

5. Collaborates with information system representatives, specifically the clinical system coordinator, in planning and executing projected related to Laboratory Information management and the hospital information system.

6. Facilitates and monitors interfaces between Information System and other vendors.

7. Understands and facilitate LIS interactions with other Information System applications.

8. Engages in troubleshooting unexpected technology problems, request technical assistance or initiate service orders internally and externally.

9. Monitors system reports for proper functioning, performing reviews of patient results, quality control entries, and audit trails as needed.

10. Creates monthly and quarterly compliance and quality reports.

11. Facilitates and oversees electrocardiographic equipment and data storage system implementation, maintenance, and use in collaboration with the imaging data manager.

12. Creates, maintains, and revises policy and procedures, work instructions and other documents related to LIS.

13. Supports middleware, instrument monitoring access, data mining application, and quality control data link.

14. Maintains records and documentation of activities related to LIS quality assurance, maintenance, installation, implementation, communications, and staff education.

15. Provides education, competency evaluation for new employees, staff members and students related to LIS and areas of oversight.

16. Supports the department by assuming duties of staff professional for intermittent, interim periods and/or specific tasks.

17. Collaborates with department director/manager to provide leadership of department functions and operations, contribute to annual staff evaluations, regulatory compliance and department strategic planning.

This FT position provides testing services for all aged patients, in any hospital location including the emergency department and local off-site collections at nursing facilities as a member of a fast-paced team effort of highly dedicated staff members.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • LIS experience is preferred, including experience with Meditech.

  • Qualified CLIA testing supervisor with a minimum of two years technical experience. Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.

  • Associate or baccalaureate degree in medical technology or a science field with subject content specific to CLIA requirements and graduation from an accredited medical technician or medical technology program is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Committed to service philosophy as applied to Information Systems.

  • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced skills in applied technology, e.g., Microsoft Office, report writing.

  • Possesses interest and aptitude for informatics, applications, and computer solutions.

  • Exhibits high level of awareness of regulatory compliance related to Information Systems.

  • Communicates effectively, both oral and written, and uses developed interpersonal skills in relationships within and outside the department.

  • Demonstrates problem-solving ability and desire to promote innovative changes.

  • Has experience with current facility information system and supporting applications (training after hiring is optional).

Licensure, Registration, or Certification:

  • Certification as an MT, MLS, or MLT is required. Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology is preferred.
