Join our winning team as a Labor Relations Managerin Lake Jackson, Texas. The Labor Relations Manager provides leadership on employee and union relations. This role advises management on legal/labor law/regulatory issues and risk management and requires an in-depth understanding of key business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish own work. The Labor Relations Manager will build and maintain relationships with the unions and is the site lead in negotiating, interpreting, and administering the collective bargaining agreements.
The selected candidate will demonstrate strong Labor Relations expertise, enhance problem solving and negotiation skills, impact short and long term business goals, develop strong coaching skills, and become a change agent by leading key elements of Freeport's culture transformation.
This role will also encompass HR client support for key groups, and provide oversight and development for an on site HR Generalist.
Labor Relations Manager Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide day-to-day Labor Relations support
  • Represent the company in all legal procedings related to Freeport Union Relations
  • Provide advice and counsel to management on contract language interpretation and any other Union policies, practices, and procedures
  • Provide leadership, counsel, and support to management on all matters related to / involving administration and management of union represented employees
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements and grievances
  • Assist the Legal Operations team with all legal matters pertaining to the Union such as: arbitration hearings, NLRB hearings, discipline review boards, etc.
  • Assist other functional work groups such as Compensation, Benefits, Staffing, etc. in matters pertaining to union represented employees
  • May be responsible for developing union-avoidance programs at non-union facilities, and for coordinating decertification activities at union facilities
  • Establish and promote a cooperative and collaborative management/employee work environment through the personal exercise of positive climate setting strategies and practices
  • In client support role, plan and implement programs to meet human resource requirements supporting short and long-term business needs, including development plans for employees, administration of affirmative action, and other employee relations programs
  • Manage and motivate staff; review and assess performance, develop and build employee skills, support their professional development and enable employees to optimize their contribution to the department
Labor Relations Manager Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree* in Human Resources, Labor/Industrial Relations, Business Management, Organizational Development or related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years related Labor Relations experience; industrial and manufacturing environments preferred; process or chemical plant environments preferred
  • Prior experience acting as spokesperson for contract negotiations
  • Ability to offer subject matter expertise on collective bargaining agreements and Labor Relations issues, HR compliance/employment law, succession planning, employee retention, organizational capability, leadership development, performance management, team building and employee relations
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop HR staff; build strong and engaged teams
  • Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience working in an OFCCP regulated environment strongly preferred
  • The ability to relocate to other locations in the US is preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license
