Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technologist will perform independently or with general direction to fully execute, manage, and coordinate laboratory processes and samples. Will report to the Laboratory Director. The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing samples using laboratory qPCR equipment and quickly reporting any management problems.


DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collects, prepares, and evaluates patient specimens for analysis and performs technical procedures with accuracy and precision, meeting all accrediting/regulatory agencies' standards in a timely manner.
  • Operate laboratory instruments and equipment and perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
  • DNA extraction and qPCR experience preferred.
  • Troubleshoots assays and equipment failures to perform adequately.
  • Maintains the A2LA-compliant quality management plan.
  • Creates and maintains department SOPs.
  • Observes establishes safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Keep a meticulous and organized record of specimens, tests, instrument logs, and technical analyses.
  • Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for a resolution.
  • Participates in activities required to support all necessary licensure for the accredited laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections.
  • Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory and the use of analysts' resulting information through continuing education activities.
  • Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments.
  • Support the administrative functions of the lab as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in science-related fields (Chemical, Physical, or Biology)
