Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate $13.56/hr Salary Band: CS 13 Job Summary/Basic Function: Under general supervision maintains biosecurity of facility according to standard operation procedures, including operation of sanitization equipment. Under immediate supervision provides care for laboratory animals, performs general health evaluations of research animals, and maintains records.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 1 year (FT) basic animal related work experience, working in an animal or a research setting. Must be able to review, comprehend, and comply with standard operating procedures. Excellent verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and move heavy equipment. Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, reach, or crouch while working. May be required to work on weekends and holidays.
Pre-employment physical exam is required.
Obtaining an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science ( American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (aalas.org)) within eighteen (18) months of employment is a requirement for continuing employment.

Obtaining an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science ( American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (aalas.org)) within eighteen (18) months of employment is a requirement for continuing employment.
(40%) Maintains sanitation programs for animal cages, racks, watering devices and disposes of waste in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains records of sanitization equipment verification tests, facility cleaning, and sanitization activities and animal husbandry duties as applicable.
(20%) Operates cage washer, tunnel washer, autoclave and other equipment.
(10%) Performs routine cleaning and sanitization of animal rooms, equipment, corridors and support areas according to written standard operating procedures.
(10%) Handles and restrains laboratory animals by using appropriate techniques.
(10%) Observes animal appearance and behavior, and reports subtle changes.
(5%) Receives and stores food, bedding, and other materials in accordance with established guidelines. May transport experimental animals, caging, supplies, and equipment to various sites.
(5%) Provides assistance during special procedures by acting under the direction of others to facilitate research and/or clinical activities.
