Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Lab Accessioner to join our team. As a Lab Accessioner, you will play a crucial role in the laboratory by accurately processing and accessioning specimens, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining the integrity of samples. This is an important position that contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our laboratory operations.
Duties:
- Receive and process specimens for testing, ensuring accurate identification and labeling
- Enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system (LIS)
- Prepare specimens for analysis by performing centrifugation, aliquoting, and other pre-analytical procedures
- Maintain inventory of supplies and reagents needed for specimen processing
- Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols to ensure quality control and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection, handling, or processing
- Assist with data entry, result reporting, and other administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in medical laboratory science or a related field is preferred
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, including venipuncture and specimen collection techniques
- Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is a plus
