Job description

Background
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP:  we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.
UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
  Job Purpose and Organizational Context

Since its establishment in 2004, the Joint UNDP-DPPA Programme on Building National Capacities for Conflict Prevention (the Joint Programme or JP) has been engaged in bridging the gap between political engagement and development assistance in pursuit of sustainable peace.

The Joint Programme started a new phase (2024-2028) in which it will continue to contribute to joint UN action to help national stakeholders enhance their capacities and structures for conflict prevention, primarily through the deployment of international and national Peace and Development Advisors (PDAs) to the offices of UN Resident Coordinators working in complex settings. Based in over 70 countries, PDAs provide analytical, advisory, and capacity-development assistance to national stakeholders to enhance capacities for dialogue, develop prevention policies and strategies, strengthen national infrastructures for peace and help foster the engagement of women and youth in these efforts.

The Joint Programme is leading diverse initiatives to strengthen knowledge exchange and learning in the area of conflict prevention and sustaining peace, to better communicate results and impact, and to facilitate structured exchanges amongst a growing community of peace and development practitioners. Some of these initiatives include online platforms such as the Peace Infrastructures portal, which aims to provide resources and tools to support national, regional and global initiatives to establish and sustain peace infrastructures, enhance experience sharing, and cultivate new innovative approaches to conflict prevention.
  Duties and Responsibilities

Lead research, analysis and Knowledge management activities, prepare briefs, notes and background documents related to the work of PDAs.  Contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts, including results reporting, data collection and visualization on the progress and impact of the Joint Programme and PDA work. Contribute to preparing communication and outreach materials, such as videos and blog posts. Research and collect existing literature and knowledge products related to conflict prevention and sustaining peace, including Women, Peace and Security, and other key areas of interest for PDAs. Maintain and manage the updating of the Peace Infrastructures Portal and other relevant online platforms. Facilitate efforts for knowledge sharing and peer-to-peer exchange within the online PDA community of practice, as well as the organizing of Joint Programme events such as the PDA induction and brownbag discussions. Perform any other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the team’s objectives and the Organization.
