Line / Catering Lead at Scratch Kitchen On The SW Washington Coast

Salt is a small, established hotel and pub operation in the small coastal fishing Port of Ilwaco in Southwest Washington. Our kitchen is a from-scratch kitchen that puts out hearty and healthy food that our guests seem to like.The kitchen overlooks the Columbia River, is not too hot, easy to clean, organized and staffed by dedicated, pleasant people.

This is not your run-of-the-mill kitchen job. Please read this posting in detail.

We are looking for someone that is good-at AND also enjoys preparing food, working as part of a team and creating solid guest experiences.

This position can be tailored to fit for a senior or mid-level kitchen person. As long as you enjoy kitchen work and are capable of working as part of team we want to hear from you.

This position is for a someone with a desire to cook in a non-burnout environment, Our team rarely work more than 45hrs per week. Besides cooking, planning ordering, and working On The occasional special project, this position involves creativity and potential to be whatever you want to to be, primarily dependent on your ambition and gumption - Recipe development, menu design, kitchen and staff management, prep, catering, teaching and hotel-side experience etc.

Our ideal candidate

Truly enjoys cooking in restaurants for people

Recent catering experience (our typical group size is 25-75 people)

Has demonstrable leadership experience and emotional intelligence (we can define this more in the interview, but this essentially translates to you being able to get along with people and thrive in teamwork situations)

Responsive, pro-active communication via face to face, email, phone.

Skews towards positive view of life

Intrinsically motivated

Has an experienced palate to ensure balanced and consistent flavor

Has an eye for presentation

Can self-manage - tasks and emotions

Reliably reliable,

Able to teach and

Growth-oriented ie enjoys reading, learning etc.

Balanced - you like to work, are focused on your work at work but you have a life and interests outside of work.

Very Important - Short statement, can be as short as 1-paragraph, outlining your interest in the job and how it relates to your life game-plan

Important for interview - Demonstrates having done research on our business and the area website/reviews etc. Please include reasons for wanting to work in the Ilwaco area.

  • Be available for 15 minute phone-interview, focused on your work-related goals and previous experience.
  • Be available for paid stage of for 1 or 2, 8-12 hour shifts on a Friday or Saturday. *This is to make sure we are a good fit for you as much as the other way around. We want you to want to work here and be successful.
  • Following paid stage we will negotiate your training and post training wage based on your performance (more$)


Additional Details

Formal culinary training is a plus, but not required - please tell us about it,

We want to hear about your other life experiences; travel, education, volunteering, military or favorite books.

Show / Get your WA food handlers card and demonstrate relevant hygiene and food handling skills

Schedule can be flexed between 25 to 40+ hrs per week, but generally always involve Saturdays.

Initial compensation will based on experience, stage etc. Long-term compensation will be determined by value you bring to the business.

Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.

Staff housing an option for the right candidate.

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts all days except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Compensation is $20.00 - $25.00/hour.
