SUPERVISOR: Chef/Kitchen Manager
STATUS: Temporary, Full-Time; May – August 2024
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of Camp Hardtner, and supervision by the Chef/Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Assistant will perform all food preparation tasks, as instructed by the Chef or kitchen lead and assist with washing dishes, trays, pots and pans and cleaning surfaces. This person is responsible for meeting or exceeding safety and sanitation requirements and guidelines. Possession of a current Serve Safe/Food Safe will positively impact starting salary.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following, and other related duties as assigned.
· Assist in the daily operations of Camp Hardtner’s food service
o Preparation of food to assure nutritional value, freshness and quality while minimizing product waste and spoilage, as instructed by Chef or kitchen lead.
o Must be capable of consistently working very early morning shifts with minimal supervision. Must be pleasant and cheerful in the early morning hours.
o Assure quality control and camper satisfaction
o Complete logs and charts accurately and assist in receiving and stocking food orders.
o Serve meals in a friendly manner
· Maintain tidiness, cleanliness, and sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment
o Must be willing to receive additional training as needed
o Maintain daily sanitation procedures and follow all food handling policies and procedures within the facilities of the kitchen and all seating areas used by campers
· Work as a member of a food service team
· Complete other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
· Must have excellent customer service and people skills. Must have ability to interact positively with the campers and staff in both a slow and hectic work environment
· Ability to organize and follow through duties in a timely manner
· Previous culinary and food handling/catering experience preferred.
· Working knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and maintenance desirable or a willingness to learn equipment operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· A valid Food Handlers Certificate highly preferred
· Capable of lifting 50 pounds and standing for long periods, ability to stoop, crawl, bend, use hands and fingers to mix and assemble, have a keen sense of smell and visual acuity.
· Must pass pre-employment background check.

Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
