Overview

The Kinship Navigator position will provide support and assistance to kinship families through the foster care and/or adoption process

Responsibilities
  • Conducts Home Assessments for Kinship Families and Potential Kinship Families
  • Assists Families through the licensing process
      • Conduct Interviews
      • Assist with preparing for the Life Safety Inspection
      • Write the home study
  • Provides initial and ongoing training and educational opportunities to Kinship Families
  • Monitors and supervise kinship homes
      • Assist families with amendment and renewal process
      • Visit each home as required and as needed
      • Ensure the Family Support Plan is updated at each visit
      • Complete all documentation as required in electronic databases
      • Maintain the electronic family file
  • Provides Support to the families
      • Assist in finding and obtaining benefits and resources
      • Work in partnership with DCS
      • Assist the family in completing incident reports as needed
      • Attend court hearings, CFTs, TDMs, and any other meetings and staffings
      • Assist family in finding short term care or respite
  • Completes adoption studies as required
  • Completes Guardianship Annual Review as required
  • Participates in internal case staffings
  • Participates in supervision
  • Completes all required new hire and ongoing training
  • Be available to assist families after hours
  • Provides after hours on call support to families
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding individuals and families with whom you work.
  • Maintains confidentiality of agency staff meetings, administrative communications, agency strategies and agency service trade secrets.
  • Abides by StepStone Family & Youth Services policies regarding abuse/neglect.
  • Follows personnel practices which include but are not limited to:
      • Reporting to work on time as scheduled.
      • Refraining from excessive absenteeism.
      • Obtaining prior approval by following protocol when over-time or time-off is desired.
      • Maintain a professional relationship with agency foster families which include not engaging in negativity, rumors or hearsay about the agency, agency personnel, or any other individuals involved in services to the foster family
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED

 

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Have a clear Central Registry Background Check
  • Have or be able to obtain a Level One fingerprint clearance card
  • Have a clear/negative pre-employment drug test result, as well as a clear/negative random drug test biennially from the date of hire
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with kinship caregivers. This can be a combination of education, experience and completed training necessary for the type of service they are delivering
  • Ability to relate well with families of varied lifestyles, background, and ethnicities
  • Experience in cultural diversity
  • Ability to assess a family's strengths and needs
  • Experience in medication and other interventions
  • Ability to recognize abuse and/or neglect in the home
  • Maintain a flexibility in working hours that allows for early morning, after hour, and weekend appointments to accommodate family schedules, emergencies, training and functions that may fall outside of our normal business hours
  • Must possess impeccable customer service skills and the ability to apply them to any situation without fail
  • Must have the ability to communicate professionally (both orally and in writing) with co-workers/team members, families, individuals with special needs and a variety of professionals
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the learning capacity to become skilled at other applications.
  • Must exemplify exceptional time and task management
  • Must have reliable transportation and maintain current Arizona vehicle registration and insurance, as well as a valid Arizona driver's license
  • Must complete all necessary paperwork/training prior to service delivery
  • Must be able to perform the job's essential functions required
