Hampton Lumber is a family-owned wood products company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. With over 1,700 employees, we operate ten sawmills in Western Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. We also manage timberland and operate a wholesale and export division. The person in this posiiton will use forklift to charge and remove kiln charges at proper times.  Must have ability to check lumber in kilns for moisture content and pull charges at appropriate times to maximize production and quality.  Must have ability to monitor computer driven controls of dry kilns. Must make appropriate changes to process as needed.  Must have ability to trouble shoot kiln / drying problems and perform light maintenance work and preventative maintenance work as needed.  The person in this position must be flexible in their hours due to varying kiln schedules. The individual must be able to detect malfunctions in equipment and communicate those to others.  Must have good communication skills and maintain a high standard of safety, quality and production. Must work closely with the sawmill and planer to identify manufacturing defects so adjustments can be made to achieve the highest grade in our lumber possible.This position will assist in the sawmill or planer forklift positions as needed. Will also be expected to train and assist at the Boiler when needed. Work schedule: Thursday-Sunday, Relief Day Shift (10 hours, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, flexible as needed). Wage $28.70 plus shift differential. ($59,696 starting per year before any overtime and production bonuses). Production Bonuses are possible for every employee each month, based on the plant site's target goals.

PTO is available for all employees. 
  • Practice safe work habits and comply with all company work and safety standards.
  • Take accurate kiln moisture checks.
  • Understand grade deviation and effects to profitability.
  • Operate kiln forklift and properly load and unload kilns and stack empty kiln carts.
  • Ensure that kiln carts are maintained.
  • Assist with trouble shooting, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of the dry kilns.
  • Possess good manual dexterity, hand/eye coordination, and communication skills through written, speech, and hearing.
  • Capable of walking around catwalks, conveyors, and uneven surfaces.
  • Capable of using power saw, peaveys, pickaroon, pike pole, and other hand tools in a safe manner.
  • Must be willing to attend any training necessary to upgrade performance.
  • Notify supervisor of any problems that arise during the shift.
  • Assist maintenance personnel during breakdowns.
  • Must be willing to train any employees as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
  • Able to assist on other jobs during break rotation or as needed.
  • Have limited mechanical knowledge and experience.

  • Experience with forklift operation required. 
  • Experience with kilns and drying wood strongly recommended. 
  • Experience with computer controls strongly recommended.
  • Must take additional training when opportunities are available
