Position:Kennel Manager
Department: Boarding facility
Job Summary: The Kennel Attendant Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the kennel, ensuring the well-being of animals in our care, and managing a team of kennel staff. This role involves a combination of animal care, team leadership, facility maintenance, and client relations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Manager for our Kennel team and facility. Someone who has a strong interest in working with animals and people alike to help grow our pet services, staff skills, and client relations. In late 2024, we will be expanding our boarding facility to double our capacity to allow for new services to be offered and accommodate our community's needs. The Kennel Manager position will be part of preparing staff and protocols for this transition. As well as implementing and managing these existing and new services and staff to maintain our high-quality pet and client care.
Responsibilities:
1. Animals:
  • Direct General Care:
  • Ensure the hospital and boarding areas are clean and sanitized.
  • Ensure proper food and water for all animals.
  • Administer medications as directed by RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) or DVM. Administration of prescribed medications may include orally, in food/water or Sub Q.
  • Perform basic grooming tasks, including pedicures, Dremel, brushing, mat shaving, ear cleaning, and express anal glands.
  • Conduct bathing and drying, including standard and medicated baths.
  • Making sure the pet is being taken care of to the highest GOLD standard.
  • This includes puppies/kittens - geriatric patients. Ages 16 weeks to 16+ years
  • Maintain detailed records of medication administration, sanitation, feeding and any observed health problems.
2. Restraint:
  • Utilize proper restraint techniques for grooming services and general animal handling.
  • This may require special handling and restraint for possibly aggressive pets.
3. Cleaning:
  • Ensure a thoroughly sanitary environment by cleaning runs/cages, laundry, dishes, and bathing areas. Mats/pads, walls, doors, floors, lobby, outdoor area and all extra boarding needs.
  • Regularly check and empty drainage traps and any outflow apparatuses.
  • Perform routine trash collection and disposal.
  • Sweep and mop floors as needed.
  • Reset grooming area after services have been done.
  • Ensuring the pet leaves groomed and manicured better than when they arrived.
4. Team:
  • Lead and manage a team of eight to fifteen staff members.
  • Create schedules and maintain team cohesion.
  • Manage callouts and tardiness.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the park Vet Leadership team.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and check-ins.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly teaching/CE sessions and leadership meetings.
  • Attend and participate in bi-weekly leadership meetings and Team meetings.
  • Coordinate with other teams if the circumstances allow.
  • Hiring candidates as needed
  • Holding staff accountable
  • Maintain good communication with team members, management team and a professional environment.
5. Client Relations:
  • Handle boarding check-in and out procedures.
  • Conduct boarding tours for clients.
  • Establish relationships with clients.
  • Provide pet photographs and text updates to clients.
  • Provide EXCEPTIONAL customer service.
6. Supply Requisition Control:
  • Manage access to radios and keys and report any damage or loss.
  • Maintain awareness of kennel use supplies and coordinate with the Inventory Manager.
7. Building and Property Maintenance:
  • Report minor and potentially major issues in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, and temporary ad hoc repairs. Performing repairs as needed and able.
  • Assist in lawn care, including leaf blowing, mowing grass, weed eating, bush/tree trimming, and trash/waste pickup.
  • Coordinate with business partners for services like trash pickup, deceased body pickup, landscaping, and property planning.
9. Standard Operating Procedure Creation:
  • Contribute to the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Holding staff accountable to the SOPs.
  • Being able to provide input on new workflow and SOPs for the new facility.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in animal care and grooming.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Multitasking skills
  • Ability to handle minor facility repairs.
  • Knowledge of kennel inventory and supplies.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
