SUMMARY
Supervises Juvenile Probationers and counsels them and their parents; makes regular visits to offices, homes, and schools to review youth's progress; sets up psychological assessments for probationers, and reviews results; apprehends probation violators; transports juveniles to placements facilities, Texas Juvenile Justice Department facilities, appointments and other places as needed; makes referrals to outside agencies when appropriate; documents all contacts and prepares various required reports case plans on a timely basis; prepares and presents at case staffing meetings and compiles other reports/documentations to meet TJJD standards.
  • Manages a caseload of juveniles on probation with the objectives of resolving problems and improving behavior.
  • Review probationer files, including preparing social histories, supplements for court hearings as well as all case plans as needed.
  • Attends hearings and testifies concerning juveniles, including offering department recommendations. Reviews files, including preparing social histories and supplements for court hearings.
  • Travels to placement facilities to visit juveniles or monitor placement services.
  • Manages, maintains, and organizes record keeping insuring all documents are readily available for court testimony.
  • Counsels parents and juveniles, including explaining procedures of Juvenile Probation, detention, and the legal proceedings.
  • Monitors juveniles' school progress, including grades and attendance, discusses the juvenile's academic progress with school officials as needed.
  • Coordinates closely with referral services to monitor juvenile's compliance with referral programs including attendance and participation
  • Maintains department county vehicle, including coordinating regular cleaning and servicing.
  • Participates in the intake on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekends.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required. Must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule.

Requires bachelor's degree plus at least one year of experience working with juveniles, or one year of graduate study or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certification as a Probation Officer by the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission. Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.

Must reside in Midland County.

Juvenile justice system; Texas Family Code, juvenile law; all TJJD standards, and standard office practices and procedures

Operate computers; read & write reports, letters, and other documents using proper format and grammar. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; physically restrain other individuals; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with CO-workers, juveniles and their families, and the general public.
