POSITION SUMMARY
Supervises juveniles held in secure detention and assists in providing services for their care. Work involves maintaining a secure and safe environment; enforcing the policies and procedures established for the Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center; in accordance with laws and regulations governing secure detention of juveniles demonstrating leadership by being a positive role model for youth and treating all persons with dignity and respect.
*Looking for employees who are available to work afternoons, evenings and some overnights.*
QUALIFICATIONS
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXEPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License, private vehicle for work related travel, acceptable driving record, and provide proof of vehicle insurance $100,000/$300,000. Must satisfactorily complete the 160-hour Basic Juvenile Detention Officer Training and Exam within 12 months of hire in order to be eligible for continued employment, in accordance with requirements of state administrative rules As a condition of continued employment, will be required to complete 24 hours of annual recertification training.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Manages and interacts with juveniles, individually or in groups, in order to provide a positive rehabilitative influence
- Observes and documents individual and group behaviors on a daily basis
- Admits and discharges juveniles, records all necessary information, and maintains required documentation
- Screens and evaluates juveniles for signs of abuse, behavioral problems, alcohol and drug abuse or withdrawal, security risk and psychological needs
- Enforces regulations and behavior management policies related to the security and operation of the facility
- Complies with all procedures and schedules for meals, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, and inspections
- Identifies and takes appropriate action with all juveniles that appear mentally or physically ill
- Receipts, verifies, and dispenses resident medications as instructed
- Provides and supervises juveniles' access to educational and recreational activities
- Distributes meals, clothing, and linens
- Provides transportation to juveniles for court and off-site appointments and activities
- Provide case management services to juveniles in the 180 Program
- Conduct home, school and work site visits
- Coordinate juvenile's daily program activities
- Performs related duties as required or directed
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXEPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or its equivalent (GED), and one of the following:
- Two (2) years of work experience providing care, supervision or custody of children within juvenile justice, group home, shelter care or foster care environments; or work experience within the juvenile justice system, or
- Post high school training from a recognized college or university with several courses in social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field
- No federal felony or of any offense which if committed in Wisconsin could be punished as a felony unless the applicant has been granted an absolute and unconditional pardon.

- Criminal and Caregiver Background
- Pre-employment physical examination including audiogram.
- Drug screening.
- Finger printing and with a search of local, state, and national fingerprint records.

DESIRED TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two (2) years of post-secondary education in a related field
- Ability to fluently speak Spanish, sign language, or other foreign language as a secondary language
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Paid or volunteer experience with a professional organization that provides training in a relevant service related field
