Juvenile Corrections Officer - Job ID 23-065
Douglas County, Kansas is accepting applications for a 3-month pool (December 14, 2023 – March 15, 2024) of candidates for Juvenile Detention Corrections Officers, with immediate openings.
The Juvenile Corrections Officer is responsible for assuring that offenders at Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center are provided oversight and structure through the supervision of their daily routine. Staff model behavior for the offenders to increase their accountability, competency development and reintegration techniques.
Duties include supervising residents, conducting safety and security inspections, providing access to health care facilities, and facilitating housing, feeding, bedding, and well-being activities. This position maintains security of the facility through resident counts, searches, inspections, and building security systems; books in juveniles using Jail Management Software system; ensures communication between shifts, teachers, supervisors and administration. Corrections Officers must maintain accurate records about the residents and the facilities and remain alert and attentive at all times. Candidates must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one. Required qualifications include minimum of 3 hours college coursework, high school diploma or G.E.D., and basic computer skills. Preference given to applicants with human services experience. Compliance with shift work is mandatory. Douglas County is dedicated to eliminating racial inequities. Starting pay is $26.72/hr. with excellent benefits, including:
