Overview:
The staff counsel office of Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey located in Mount Laurel, NJ seeks a full time Junior Trial Attorney with an interest in starting a career in the insurance defense field.
The Junior Trial Attorney would be trained to handle a variety of no fault and personal injury cases. The training would include the analysis of lawsuits and claims against the Company and its insureds, preparation of pleadings, preparation of written PIP submissions, conducting depositions and Examinations Under Oath, attending arbitrations, conferences, motions, and trials. The candidate must be a highly motivated, organized, team player, who would be eager to learn and willing to eventually handle a high volume of files, virtual appearances and in person appearances. The candidate would be expected to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with the Company’s Claims staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
- One year of experience or recently admitted to the New Jersey Bar.
- Fully licensed to practice law in New Jersey (Required).
- Must be able to work in a paperless environment.
- Possesses strong computer skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of Products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- New York Bar admission (Not required but is a plus).
Responsibilities:
- Participate in a comprehensive training process that will prepare you for the responsibilities listed below.
- Be able to analyze litigation assignments referred from Claims and prepare litigation action plans that address legal issues and defenses.
- Prepare PIP arbitration submissions and upload same to Forthright or AAA.
- Develop a working knowledge of NJ rules of evidence and civil procedure, as well as, NJ and NY no-fault arbitration rules.
- Develop a working knowledge of all aspects of Insurance Law, such as coverage questions, UM and UIM Coverage, No-Fault, etc.
- Conduct depositions and Examinations Under Oath.
- Attend court conferences, arbitrations, motions and trials.
- Input and maintain information into case management system and ensure data integrity.
- Provide legal research, legal advice and direction to Claims on cases of various exposure and complexity.
- Possess an aptitude to work independently in making decisions, in file handling and communicating those decisions to the proper parties.
- Handle special projects as the need arises.
