Duties and Responsibilities
[Curriculum Design and Development]

  • Conduct literature and best practice reviews on various culture-based education topics, in order to responsibly guide curriculum design and development. Publish in peer-reviewed articles.
  • Collaborate closely with Ulu Ae Transitions project stakeholders (complex area superintendents, community partners, HIDOE teachers and administrators etc.) to conceptualize and craft culture-based curricula and digital media skills-building activities.
  • Design immersive, experiential learning programs deeply rooted in culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.
  • Enhance, update, and refine existing culture-based lessons to ensure their continued effectiveness and relevance.
  • Conduct culturally responsive and comprehensive needs assessments and other evaluation activities to assess the long-term impact of curricula on participating students.
  • Mentor educators in seamlessly integrating culture-based curricula into their teaching methodologies.
  • Cultivate a sense of belonging and cultural identity among students by infusing lessons with indigenous wisdom.
  • Continually assess, adapt, and improve curricula based on latest evidence, stakeholder feedback, and rigorous evaluation data.
  • Working with the Ulu Ae Transitions team, develop presentations and peer-reviewed articles, in order to share project findings with local, national, and international colleagues.
[Program Management]
  • Co-Create, design, and implement pre-service and in-service professional development programs, workshops, and presentations, overseeing their coordination and execution.
  • Co-create and implement workshops and training sessions focused on nurturing social, emotional, and cultural learning.
  • Work closely with the Ulu Ae Transitions team to support educators in implementing trauma-informed practices and indigenous peace circle processes to create safe and supportive learning environments.
  • Work closely with the Ulu Ae Transitions team to ensure educators adeptly utilize culture-based and technology-rich instructional resources to maximize their impact.
  • Work with the Ulu Ae Transitions team to diligently monitor program progress, gather critical data, and deliver regular updates to the project team.
  • Maintain and analyze comprehensive records and databases related to performance measures, participating schools, educators, and students, as part of continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Generate insightful reports and documentation for quarterly and annual progress evaluations.
  • Develop and disseminate hands-on and digital project resources and materials that will be easily accessible via the Growing Pono Schools website to educators and students.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in business administration, project management, educational leadership, or related field.
  2. At least one (1) year of experience working for a state or federal grant funded educational project.
  3. Experience in administering surveys and conducting interviews, focus groups, and observations with students, teachers, and parents.
  4. Ability to accurately collect and share project data.
  5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  6. At least one (1) year of experience writing technical reports including evaluation reports, project reports submitted to federal or state funding agencies, briefs, other technical reports, and/or publications.
  7. Ability to travel to various project site locations independently and in a timely manner.
  8. Ability to work during weekends and/or outside work hours if necessary.

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Experience teaching in the State of Hawaii, including working with HIDOE teachers and administrators, and complex area superintendents.
  2. Experience designing, creating, and implementing culturally responsive curriculum, programs, resources, and lesson plans.
  3. Experience conducting culturally responsive needs assessments, research, and evaluations.
  4. Experience developing reports and presenting at conferences.
  5. Experience conducting literature reviews, developing grant proposals, and securing competitive funding.
  6. Experience developing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
