LOCATION: Salem, OR
Remote work is available for this position.
SALARY:
$5,535- $8,376/per month Non-PERS Rate
$5,865- $ 8,880/per month PERS Rate
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The primary purpose of the Junior Security Analyst position is to provide tier one (1) support for all security requests from Agency staff. The Junior Security Analyst will serve as the initial point of contact for security related support issues ranging from log inquiries to initial triage of security alerts for the Agency. This position will also be assisting senior level staff with managing, installing, and maintaining security software and hardware infrastructure. This is accomplished in part, but not limited to:
Security Tools and Software
  • Work with security tools and software such as antivirus software, firewalls, log management systems to assist in troubleshooting and managing the security of Agency systems.
  • Assist in the patching, maintenance, and administration of security products such as antivirus software, web proxies, EDR, and other security products in the environment.

Operating Systems
  • Work with a variety of operating systems such as Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android and iOS.

Analysis
  • Analyze complex issues to help identify root cause and propose effective solutions.
  • Analyze systems logs for anomalies, malicious behavior, or indicators of compromise.
  • Research and analyze security threats and vulnerabilities to identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Documentation
  • Develop and maintain documentation of secure configuration guidelines for Agency systems.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security policies and procedures.

Collaboration
  • Work with senior security team members to review and implement security tools, software, and hardware.
  • Provide support and assistance to end-users, resolving security related issues and inquiries.
  • Provide support and assistance to end-users to resolve requests and inquiries regarding security managed infrastructure and software.
  • Research and resolve issues or outages involving security managed infrastructure and software.

Compliance
  • Ensure that system security configurations and guidelines are being followed and the compliance of systems are being met.

Your application must demonstrate education and/or experience in the following:
Four (4) years of Information Systems experience in a Service Desk Environment*
OR
(b) An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;
AND
two (2) years of Information Systems experience in a Service Desk Environment*;
OR
(c) A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field;
AND
one (1) year of Information Systems experience in a Service Desk Environment*.
*Service Desk experience must include:
  • Support and trouble ticket management
  • Managing and maintaining system configurations of security software and hardware
  • Analyzing log data identifying potential security incidents or anomalies
  • Troubleshooting complex issues
  • Educating end-users on security best practices and raise awareness about potential threats.

As the most competitive candidate, your application will demonstrate the following requested skills and experience:
  • Familiarity with security tools such as web filtering/proxy, antivirus software, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and central log management systems.
  • Understanding of networking protocols, networking concepts and the functions of network and security tools, hardware, and software.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Mac OS devices.
  • A commitment to ethical conduct and the ability to handle sensitive information with integrity.

Preference may be awarded to candidates that have an active CompTia Security+, GIAC Security Essentials, or other comparable certifications or are eligible to sit for CompTia Security+, GIAC Security Essentials, or other comparable certifications.
