Departmental Overview
The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a partnership between the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco. The IGI envisions a world in which genome-engineering innovations benefit humanity and are accessible to all. The Institute's mission is to accelerate genome discovery and translation of resulting technologies in order to ethically and equitably improve human health and sustainable agriculture. Combining the fundamental research expertise and the biomedical talent at UCB and UCSF, the IGI focuses on unraveling the mechanisms underlying CRISPR-based genome editing and applying this technology to cure disease, ensure food sustainability, and provide additional benefits for current and future generations. The IGI consists of four central programs: Human Health, Sustainable Agriculture, Advancing Genome Engineering, and Public Impact.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains isotopic greenhouse growth experiments in the 13CO2 labeling facility.
  • Assists in set-up, maintenance, and processing of the large scale greenhouse experiments that include processing samples for geochemical analyses, nucleic acid extractions, greenhouse work, and assisting in running the EPIC DEL 13CO2 labeling system.
  • Conducts nucleic acid extractions on samples harvested from isotopic growth experiments.
  • Conducts geochemical sample preparation and analyses on soil samples from isotopic growth experiments.
  • Troubleshoots plants grown in greenhouse that include analyzing plant infection by one of the following pests: powdery mildew, aphids, white flies.
  • Recommends and implements remedies.
  • Monitors lab consumable supplies and conducts ordering when necessary.
  • Assists in repairs and troubleshooting of isotopic labeling facility's instrumentation.
Required Qualifications
  • DNA extractions.
  • Maintenance of greenhouse growth experiments.
  • Appropriate soil processing for various biogeochemical analyses,
  • Communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
Education/Training:
  • Bachelors in Environmental Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related field

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $58,490.82 (step 1.0) - $63,348.91 (step 5.0).
  • This is a 1-year, 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), limited (temporary) position that is eligible for UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
