Job description

JUNIOR HIGH HEAD CHEER COACH: (Tumbling Experience Desired)
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the Junior High Cheer Program.
  • Inspire, develop, monitor, supervise, train, and guide student-athletes to cheer and uplift crowd.
  • Be committed to building an in-season and off-season cheer program.
  • Build relationships with and have a willingness to coach both beginners and advanced student-athletes.
  • Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. 
  • Foster good sportsmanship. 
  • Cooperate in a timely manner, with the School Athletic Office the District Athletic Department, in regard to pertinent information that might be required periodically.
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the Coaches Tool Chest Trainings/Certification and ODE Pupil Activity Permit.
  • Follow CPS Policy as outlined in Coaches Handbook. Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and OHSAA.
  • Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
  • Begin pre-season practices on the first day permitted for the sport. 
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices and games, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciples of the program.
  • Set positive examples at all times (i.e. being appropriately dressed, developing respect through his/her  appearance, behavior, language, conduct, etc).
  • Maintain a suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve performances and coaching.
  • Participate in Schools Event (i.e., Awards Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc).
  • Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment in decision-making.
  • Be competent in techniques of the sport and student-athletes respond positively to directions given. 
  • Be well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport. 
  • Be innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
  • Ensure that team is well prepared for opponents.
  • Provide motivation for student-athletes to meet/exceed their goals. Stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each student-athlete.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Skills/Essential Functions:
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of skills associated with the sport.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Tumbling experience desired.
 
Trainings/Certifications:
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is desired.
  • Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check. Possess an Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit. Provide satisfactory completion of Coaches Tool Chest Training/Certification.
