Job Title: Junior Geologist
Job Type: Regular Full-Time
Location: Asheville NC
What's the Opportunity?
Anchor QEA is seeking a junior-level geologist to support projects related to groundwater assessment and remediation, closed landfill, and industrial compliance. We are particularly interested in an individual who is a committed team player, enjoys field work, and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate would be able to perform technical work under guidance, draft reports focused on groundwater, surface water, and stormwater sampling, and provide contractor management and construction oversight.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Visit project sites to perform inspections and compliance sampling on regional projects
  • Assist with, or lead field efforts such as soil, sediment, and water sampling
  • Organize and analyze data, and develop reports
  • Visit project sites to perform site assessments and oversee construction (potential for regional and national travel for up to approximately 20% and local field time approximatley50%, depending on project needs)
  • Coordinate with Anchor QEA's team of engineers, geologists, scientists and support staff throughout the project lifecycle
  • When not performing field work, this position will require at least 4 days in-office, with some flexibility to work from home in certain situations.

What Are We Looking For?
Ideal candidates will have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, or a related field
  • 0 - 5 years of experience
  • Ability to assist with field efforts such as soil, sediment, and water sampling, and contractor management and construction oversight
  • Ability to observe and describe the natural World, with experience with subsurface characterization preferred
  • Ability to quickly obtain, organize, and analyze information into project specific needs, including plotting trends, contouring, developing cross-sections
  • A willingness to work on a variety of tasks, an ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Proficient in, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other common office software
  • Willingness to travel regionally or nationally approximately 20% of the time, and to be in the field approximately 50% of the time
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines
