The qualified candidate will be a hands-on professional scientist handling a wide-range of environmental-related tasks on due-diligence projects as well as small to large scale construction projects.

APTIM's Tampa, Florida office is seeking a Jr. Environmental Scientist (hydrogeologist, geologist, or Environmental Scientist) to assist the retail petroleum new-store construction team. The qualified candidate will be a hands-on professional scientist handling a wide-range of environmental-related tasks on due-diligence projects as well as small to large scale construction projects.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Initial responsibilities will be primarily in the field for projects across the state of Florida, although there will be time spent in the office on project-related duties.
- Responsibilities will include:
- Performing Phase I/II environmental assessment field activities
- Collection of soil and groundwater samples during petroleum fuel system closures.
- Oversight of dewatering operations during construction activities, including groundwater treatment systems.
- Oversight of subcontractors during drilling, soil hauling, and other assessment or construction related activities.
- Operating complex instrumentation or equipment in the field.
- Responsibilities may grow to include:
- Preparation of Best Management Practices and application submittals for dewatering permits, following through on permit approvals to completion.
- Report writing for Phase I/II environmental assessments, including interpretation and presentation of collected data in reports that include text, tables, and figures suitable for client and regulatory review.
- Must be able to work as part of a team or independently, managing your time, effort, and duties within budgetary constraints and a timeline that shifts with client needs.
- Must be able to comprehend the underlying goal of the project to the extent that you can make decisions in the field and relay critical information to the Project Manager.
- Must be able to work hand in hand with contractors on construction projects as well as oversee subcontractors working directly for APTIM.
- Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline.
- Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology/Environmental Science or related degree required.
- Working experience in the petroleum cleanup field
- Working knowledge of Florida regulations and sample collection SOPs related to environmental investigations and permits.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, as you'll be interacting with contractors and regulatory agencies on a regular basis.
- Must have strong written communication skills and an attention to detail.
- Able to work outside in typical Florida conditions, during all seasons, for up to 12 hours at a time.
- Able to travel overnight for jobs lasting multiple days.
- Valid Driver's License.
- OSHA 40 Hr HAZWOPER is a plus
