The University of Indianapolis is seeking applicants for a Junior Designer. The University of Indianapolis Junior Designer is an integral member of the Office of University Communications and Marketing that is responsible for the creation of effective, high quality creative designs in support of the creative production team. Responsibilities include, under the supervision of a senior design professional, the updating of existing materials and/or creation of engaging and impactful designs for a mix of design needs that align with University Brand Standards to fulfill the requested deliverables from clients and stakeholders. The Junior Designer must be highly creative, organized, self-motivated, and have a sharp eye for details.

Junior Designer- Essential Functions
- Use Adobe Creative Cloud software: Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, use of Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint, and occasionally Figma software, to update existing University marketing materials as needed including, but not limited to, brochures, posters, collateral pieces, postcards, envelopes, stationery, digital assets, logos, digital banners, signage, etc.
- Uphold UIndy's visual identity found in our style guide by using appropriate colors, font styles, iconography, photography, etc.
- Layout and/or update marketing collateral as provided by content specialists and marketing managers as needed in support of University marketing needs.
- Prepare print-ready files for materials for production, understanding of bleed and crop functions in the printing process.
- Resize/update digital assets including but not limited to email headers, website headers, social media graphics, etc.
- Work closely with senior design team in support of projects, providing design and production assistance as needed
- Effectively track and manage projects using project management software.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Junior Designer- Qualifications
- 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in design and production of creative materials including, but not limited to print/collateral, digital, and multimedia concepts
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Design, Communications, or related field is required
- Proficiency in the following software systems: Adobe Creative Cloud: Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.
- Understands basic principles and techniques used in publication layout and design, including the use of type, color, paper, composition, graphics, and photography.
- Skilled in understanding the most appropriate media and software for the creation of graphic images.
- Ability to determine appropriate color space (PMS, CMYK, RGB) for each medium.
- Convincing design skills, a strong understanding of design software, good organization and time management skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and coordinate daily work assignments independently, with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward organizational objectives.
- Evidence of superior oral and written communication skills.
- Evidence of success working effectively with diverse constituencies and in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn new skills and technology.
- Higher education experience is not required.
- Web design and development, motion graphics, or experience working within a Content Management System is a plus.
