Under the support and guidance of Firebrand Group’s Director of Engineering, the Junior SQL Database Administrator is responsible for helping oversee the maintenance and security of all company databases. This includes assisting in the performance of data maintenance, backup planning, recovery of table spaces and indexes, high availability and business continuity testing, statistics gathering, etc. Specific duties in addition to those listed below include monitoring and updating systems to combat potential security breaches, creating account data for authorized individuals to access databases and organizing databases so colleagues can find important documents in an efficient manner. Firebrand Group is a 100% remote global company with just over 100 employees.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, implement security measures and monitor database performance
  • Maintain a comprehensive backup strategy
  • Perform regular maintenance
  • Help plan for scalability and high availability
  • Document database architecture and operations
  • Help ensure disaster recovery preparedness; perform regular audits and assessments
  • Stay current with technology and best practices
  • Use database management and monitoring tools
  • Optimize hardware and software configuration
  • Over time, assist developers/engineers in database and application tuning for optimal performance (SQL tuning)
  • Over time, work closely with technology teams across the company as needed
  • Over time, work with technology teams across the company to automate database infrastructure for continuous integration/development

To be successful in this role, we ask that you have:

  • Minimum 5 years general developer/engineer experience, some DBA experience a plus
  • General knowledge of database design and construct
  • Proficient with SQL and writing stored procedures
  • Experience maintaining data interfaces with various 3rd party applications
  • Database management systems: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • AWS RDS or Aurora experience helpful
  • Other RDBMS experience helpful
  • Development DBA/Modeler with additional skills in Linux, Windows, Powershell, Autosys, Cyberfusion, Jenkins, Bitbucket
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve problems and make decisions independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams
  • An attention to detail and ability to deliver commitments on deadline
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
