Job description

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:
The primary function of this position is to interact with campers and serve as support staff for the summer camp program. Individuals working in this position will implement and conduct recreational activities in coordination with the summer camp counselor. Work involves performing duties requiring independence, accountability, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conducts programs and activities for youth ages 5-10; activities include but not limited to, supervise campers on field trips, athletic, fitness, arts and crafts, leisure games, educational games, storytelling, music, drama, and dance; additional programs may be added during the course of the summer camp program; encourages participants to participate in activities and provides leadership in group activities; provides instruction on rules and procedures for camp program; maintain discipline and order within the program site and other assigned activity areas; enforce safety and health regulations and report any unusual incidents to the Supervisor on Duty. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 14 years of age on hire date; Must possess a valid state issued picture ID or a valid Georgia driver’s license and an original social security card; a work permit will be required if applicant is under 18 years of age; student must have two letters of reference from school (teacher, principal or guidance counselor); may be required to work up to 25 hours per week various days and times; must be comfortable working outside in summer conditions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; must attend all staff meetings, orientation and training. Requires flexibility and willingness to learn variety of life skills to include, group leadership, effective communication and a willingness to respond to the changing needs of the camp environment.
Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; which generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, test score, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history (copy of driver’s license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
