Role: Junior Chemist

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Job Description:

General Description:
The Chemist position is responsible for analyzing plating bath chemistry for various elements, monitor the variability of bath parameters, establish & modify control procedures; perform daily & weekly bath analysis; troubleshoot chemical process control problems & chemical problems; test for concentrations using titration and standard lab methods, maintain records of additions to the tank, maintain all analytical equipment in the lab and maintain chemical inventory. Additionally, the Chemist is responsible for planning, directing and implementing activities to establish and maintain compliance with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies.

Reports To: Operations Manager

Essential Functions

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Perform testing to analyze the components of the plating tanks.
  • Prescribe chemical additions to the plating tanks to maintain optimum levels.
  • Maintain a log of test results and additions to the tanks.
  • Issue and track the progress of monthly compliance testing.
  • Maintain a log of onsite hazardous waste and arrange transportation of waste prior to exceeding the maximum accumulation limits.
  • Maintain chemical inventory at a level that does not allow a shortage of chemical or an excess of inventory.
  • Work with management to improve the lab to function at a high level of competency and accuracy.
  • Conduct all business in a safe, ethical, and efficient manner.

Skills:

  • Understanding of standard lab testing methods and equipment
  • Understanding of Chemistry and Math required to calculate additions and adjustments to keep tanks within tolerance
  • Attention to detail
  • Communication
  • Computer: Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other similar computer programs.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a medium to heavy manufacturing environment. Frequent exposure to manufacturing elements such as noise, temperatures, dust, odors and fumes.

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to safely utilize and wear PPE, such as dust mask, steel toe footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a part-time position. After the initial training the hours of work and days are Monday through Friday between, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours.

Travel

  • No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree minimum
  • Manufacturing and Aerospace experience not required but recommended..
