Description
The core function of this position is to scour the media landscape for content ideas, and then package those ideas for writers in ways that capture the attention and maximize the engagement of users on social media. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with an interest in working with political ideas, strong attention to detail, a passion for the truth and a meticulous approach to work. We want people passionately committed to fighting the political and cultural left and standing for traditional American, conservative, and Christian values. This role requires working a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, however, the training period will be a Monday to Friday schedule. Occasional evening work will be required from time to time as The Western Journal offers live coverage of some events, such as presidential debates, elections, news conferences, etc.
Note: Assignment editing is not suited for people who have difficulty dealing with controversial topics, polarizing opinions, contrarian points of view, dark subject matter, graphic crime, subjects academe now considers “triggering,” and even gallows humor.
Responsibilities:
- Crafts shareable, engaging content for our website, email and social media
- Collaborates with editorial staff to select content for publishing on the basis of relevance, value to the reader, and timing
- Uses analytics software to identify the effectiveness, engagement, and reach both in real time and after the fact
- Identifies potentially “viral” videos and other content that can be used to advance our editorial goals, and helps curate these on our site, always keeping in mind our mission and audience
- Optimizes titles for maximum engagement on various platforms
- Follows social trends and new platforms to help guide team strategy
- Collaborates with other teams on original video ideas, including interviews and original content
- Contact sources and subjects via phone, email, or through social media for comments and original interviews
Requirements/Qualifications:
- No vaccination requirement
- Interest in and knowledge of current events, news, politics, and conservative philosophy
- Interest in new social media platforms and a desire for constant experimentation
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Able to accept feedback and helpful criticism
- Self-starter attitude
- Previous experience working in a newsroom for a digital publication a plus
- Experience with WordPress or other CMS a plus
- Experience with platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn a plus
- Understanding of the values and the mission of The Western Journal and willingness to promote and uphold these both at work and with potential partners, readers, and members
