Job Description

The Fourth Judicial District has an immediate opening in Court Administration for a Judicial Specialist providing Courtroom Technology Support for District 4. Starting salary is $1,444.00 biweekly or $37,544.00 annually.
The employee will need be proactive in reviewing the district's court schedules to ensure the technical needs of judges and staff are met before and during hearings and trials; as well as answer minor technical questions day-to-day.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist staff with preliminary troubleshooting of hardware, software, phone, and technical issues
  • Submit help tickets to Judicial Branch IT when appropriate and follow up on each
  • Train and/or assist judges and staff with Zoom and Teams meetings
  • Collaborate with Judicial Branch IT on tech projects within the district
  • Assist public with using Courtroom Technology
  • Prepare courtroom(s) for proceedings, especially trials requiring remote capability
  • Work with D4's Media Coordinator to provide technical assistance to the media
  • Assist with interpreter coordination
  • Assist ADA coordinator with any technical needs to meet accommodations
  • Update District 4's page on the Iowa Courts website
  • Prepare orders, schedule court hearings, perform case research, general office work and provide substantial clerical support for the Court.
  • Travel required
  • Other duties as specified by Court Administrator.

This is a non-merit position. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service.
At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education. Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience.
Must be bondable. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. The Iowa Judicial Branch also uses E-Verify
